Students experiment with force and mass by using non-standard labour units (in the form of monkeys) to help move recently arrived animals to the zoo.
Learning object description:
Students discover the difference between 'push' and 'pull' as they are asked to move animals of similar mass across the bridge using 'monkey power'. The size of the animals being moved may vary or students may be limited in the number of monkeys available to do the work. This is an aggregate learning object combining the three learning objects in the series.
Key learning objectives:
Students investigate the meaning of 'push' and 'pull' forces.
Students apply a force to move an object that is at rest and identify the minimum force needed to move objects having a range of weights.
