Students practise whole number sequences using numerals, quantities (for example, dots) and words. Thinking is focused on considering the number that comes before and after given numbers.
Learning object description:
Students work with whole numbers up to ten. Numbers are represented as words, numerals and dots, which represent quantities. This learning object is the first in a series of five objects that progressively increase in difficulty.
Key learning objectives:
Students sequence whole numbers from one to ten.
Students connect number words and numerals to the quantities they represent.
Students recognise place value in numbers up to ten.
Educational value:
Students recognise digit names and values up to ten in a variety of representations.
Students develop and consolidate counting forwards and backwards skills that are fundamental to addition and subtraction skills.
The learning object challenges students to develop strategies as they predict, test and confirm, or change the sequencing of numbers.
Randomised number generation encourages repeated use.
